See This Item On YouTube search…. Research has found that a certain number of mites fall to the bottom of the hive as a result of the normal hustle and bustle of the bees above. On solid boards, the mites apparently hitch a ride on passing bees and return to the nest. With a screened bottom, the mites fall through and away from the comings and goings of the passing bees; the mites perish. Using a screened bottom board is a good way to control a certain number of mites in a non-chemical way. To See a Dana Bee Farm beehive ” explained”. This is an incredible bottom board that is sure to provide you with the best performance available. These are very well engineered all the way through. These bottoms will promote a healtier colony by increasing ventilation and allowing mites to fall thru screen away from bees. This is even more important for organic natural beekeeping. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL! Dont take a chance with a inferior knockoff. There are a few MAJOR differences between these bottom boards and others. This is a screened bottom board, base, entrance ramp and Varroa mite counting setup all in one! This bottom board starts with 7/8″ thick wood instead of 3/4″ on frame and entrance ramp for superior durability and stability. Top perimeter is 3/4″ dimensions to align properly to a 10 frame langstroth hive dimension (16 1/4″ x19 7/8). All joints are secured with lifetime 304 STAINLESS STEEL construction staples for the longest life possible! Construction staples provide a more secure fastener that drastically reduces any splitting tendencies of wood by capturing the grain. These bottom boards incorporate a seamless transition from the front of the screen to the entrance ramp. Also the screen is captured on all four sides unlike most screened bottoms on the market today! There is no screen edge to work loose and restrict bee movement, No staples to rust. This screen stays put where it belongs and does not inhibit valuable bee movement during nectar flow. The entrance ramp is sloped all the way to the hive entrance to eliminate small puddling at hive opening. The Mite/ Ventilation board is designed with a nice handle and corrugated board instead of sheet plastic. My design with this handle means more clearance to prevent scraping pollen and debis while removing for most accurate mite inspection, This also increases durability and insulating properties during cold winter months. White is selected for easy mite viewing. Replacement boards are available on my other listings. These Screened Bottom Boards are built with pride in the USA using 100% western red cedar (clear- no knots) from private independent saw mills in the Pacific Northwest. They are manufactured with a higher level of construction and joinery by an experienced cabinetry/furniture shop. The construction process also features lap and dado joints for increased strength and waterproof FDA approved adhesive on frame joints to prevent failure. Time and bee saver: If you are using one of these hive bottoms then you no longer need to worry about tilting hives forward. Hives may be placed level if desired due to inability of water to puddle inside hive or on entrance. The overall dimensions are: 16-1/4″ wide, 23-1/2″ long, and 3-3/4 tall. Opening is 3/4 tall and accepts standard 3/4″ x 14 3/4″ entrance reducers. Ask to be reinvoiced after entering items into shopping cart. We also have many more premium cedar hive components and can accomodate custom orders. UPGRADE YOUR HIVES TODAY OR PREPARE FOR THE NEXT SWARM OR SPLIT. YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE DIFFERENCE!
